Dishes in the sink , laundry on the couch and you're almost out of dry shampoo. You were warned about life with a newborn, but could not fathom how someone this tiny can stop everything from rotating on its axis. "Welcome to motherhood" your friends say .I despise that saying, Like it's ok for you to feel disheveled, chaotic and hostage to a tiny human. While you cannot control your newborn ,you can get help with your new life.

Welcome to the world of Postpartum doulas, this is a world I can get behind lol. Lets take the above picture and introduce a Postpartum doula into it. She will arrive ,come in and chat about your day/night and assess you and your needs for the shift. Do you need a shower? She will send you marching right into the bathroom while she cares for baby, if baby is content then she will start to help with that pile of laundry, load the dishes and light housework. Need a nap? Done! you get to go off to your bedroom turn on netflix and chill knowing your baby is being cared for by a loving professional. Are you getting the picture on the value of having a Postpartum doula?

The support should not stop at the birth, the postpartum period is know as the fourth trimester in many cultures. Babies and parent alike are new to this world and are vulnerable. Lack of sleep can really turn a person into a version of themselves they didnt know existed. Having a professional doula come into the house for Postpartum support has shown to improve not only physical but emotional wellbeing of both parents.

A certified Postpartum doula has been trained to recognize signs of Baby blues and Postpartum depression. Early recognition is important so treatment can begin before the symptoms are elevated. Keeping in mind most new moms do not see the dr for a follow-up until 6 weeks after the birth ,That can feel like an eternity to moms with these disorders. Hiring a Postpartum doula after the birth is not just a service to get your dishes done , Its a whole body support service by a trained professional.

Happy birthing, The Push Doula Team
